The Fed, a social eatery and bar in downtown Clarkston (that opened in an old bank building), has launched its lower-level concept, Gold Bar, which is now serving an assortment of gourmet hot dogs and sides. Gold Bar incorporates unique fea- tures, as the lower level bar is made from a vintage Airstream Travel Trailer, and the doors to the lower- level vault (known as the speakeasy), were built in such a way that when shut, they seamlessly blend into the wall and look hidden. The venue also features weekly live music. Daily operations are led by owners Sarah and James Schneider, along with Executive Chef Jakobi Voorheis and General Manager Matthew Wright. Gold Bar is located in the lower level at 15 S. Main St. in downtown Clarkston. In its first major menu expansion since opening nearly three years ago, the plant-based eatery and bar has added a variety of comfort- food entrees and snacks to its daily offerings. Among more than a dozen new options are loaded nachos with seitan chorizo and cashew sour cream; a shii- take bac’n cheezburger; the Al Pastor cubano with pineapple-marinated jackfruit; a three-bean sloppy “Joel” and several dairy-free milkshakes, such as pumpkin spice, chocolate raspberry and strawberry matcha, with the option to add spirits. Pumpkin crème brûlée sweetens the daily dessert specials, along with Michigan apple pie with date caramel, chocolate chip cheesecake and Superman ice cream made from pea milk. New to the weekend brunch lineup are the avocado benedict, tofu huevos rancheros and French toast, alongside favorites such as fingerling potato hash, purple jacks and country biscuits and gravy. Allergy-friendly gluten-, soy- and nut-free options are available, as are oil-free and children’s items. “Our Monday Slider Fests, Taco Tuesdays and happy hour snacks receive such rave reviews that we decided to add a ‘healthier comfort food’ section to the menu,” says cardi- ologist Joel Kahn M.D., who co-owns GreenSpace Café and Royal Oak’s GreenSpace & Go with his wife, Karen, and son Daniel. “You’ll still find the superfood salad, the Brussels fattoush, farmer’s board and other favorites,” Kahn adds. “At our core, we’re about healthy, whole, local and delicious. The new comfort foods are geared to those who may be visiting a plant café for the first time. We honor the opportunity to introduce them to tempeh, jackfruit, legumes and other staples and to show how tasty plant-based eating can be.” Green Space Café is located at 215 W. Nine Mile in Ferndale. All food and select wines are certified kosher. ■
