Bringing in the Light
Eighth annual Menorah in the D
ushers in fi rst night of Chanukah.
This year’s Menorah in the D, held Sunday, Dec. 2, at Campus Martius Park in
Downtown Detroit, paid tribute to the 11 victims of the Pittsburgh synagogue shoot-
ing and also honored eight in the community with 8 in their ages, from ages 8-98.
Though the evening brought rain, the large crowd still enjoyed the lighting of the
giant menorah, the refreshments, dancing, singing and more. Officials in attendance
were Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, Michigan Attorney General-elect Dana Nessel and
U.S. Rep. Brenda Lawrence (D-Mich.).
The event was sponsored by The Shul-Chabad Lubavitch in partnership with the
Jewish Federation and Chabad of Greater Downtown Detroit, with support from DTE
Energy, Quicken Loans and others.
