On Sunday, Sept. 23, Temple Emanu-El in Oak Park celebrated its communi-
ty-wide picnic. Bounce houses, a watermelon-eating contest, three-legged race,
rock painting, arts and crafts, bubble machine, face painting, selfie photo booth,
decorating the sukkah, henna tattoos and, of course, food for all were the high-
lights at this multi-generational celebration. Families from the Temple Early
Childhood Community as well as from the Yachad Religious School (the edu-
cation partnership between Temple Emanu-El and Congregation Beth Shalom)
enjoyed the afternoon with members, friends and neighbors.

The State Bar of Michigan’s Arts, Communication, Entertainment and Sports
Section (“ACES”) honored Stuart and Maxine Frankel with the 2018 John Hensel
Award Oct. 11 at the Cranbrook Art Museum. The award is given annually to
members of the State Bar who have made notable contributions to arts, com-
munications, sports or entertainment in Michigan. The Frankels, founders of
the Maxine and Stuart Foundation for Art, have been leaders and benefactors of
the arts for decades, including providing significant support to Cranbrook, the
University Musical Society and the University of Michigan Art Museum.
