talents of Daniel Kahn & the Painted Bird
as well as Sacramento Knoxx to Marble
Bar in Detroit (1501 Holden St.) from 6-9
p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25.

Based in Berlin, Daniel Kahn & the
Painted Bird make music, which has been
described as “a mixture of Klezmer, radi-
cal Yiddish song, political cabaret and
punk folk.” Kahn is from Detroit and stud-
ied theater at the University of Michigan.
Sacramento Knoxx is an Ojibwe and
Chicano rapper, multimedia performer
and community organizer based in
Detroit.
The evening will be a collage of funk,
jazz, indigenous rhythms, Jewish humor
and commentary on contemporary social
justice issues by artists who have com-
mitted their lives to tikkun olam, repair of
the world.
Proceeds from the concert will benefit
DJJ’s work for racial and economic justice
and Birmingham Temple’s efforts to sup-
port a local family of Syrian refugees. •
