sonating African” — “The nice thing about having 25 years of music to celebrate and seven studio
albums we absolutely love to choose from is that we can play a different show every night … we
can’t wait.” $29.50 and up. 313presents.com.

keeping American roots music alive. In addition to his latest win,

SEPT. 8: UNIVERSAL EYES

In the early ’90s, Gretchen Gonzales
Davidson and her band Universal Indians
played every Lansing basement they could.
By the late ’90s, Davidson and the band had
relocated to Detroit, added a member and
morphed into Wolf Eyes. Around the dawn
of the new millennium, Davidson moved
on to the band Slumber Party. Last spring,
the quartet met again in Metro Detroit,
hauled instruments into a home studio and
it seemed the missing years were a blip.
The result, captured by producer Warren
Defever, is Four Variations on “Artificial Society” by
the newly named Universal Eyes. The two-record set will be officially
released on Sept. 8, when the band will perform at a celebration at Detroit
City Airport, along with ADULT and Fluct. Facebook.com/u.eyemusic.
