B’nai Moshe
Offers New Free
School Model
Congregation B’nai Moshe is
embarking on a new model for
Jewish learning and engagement
with a program designed to meet
the needs of the 21st-century fam-
ily while remaining true to the val-
ues of Conservative Judaism.
Students will now be meeting
at the West Bloomfield syna-
gogue from 4-6 p.m. Sundays for
all learners in grades 4-12. At the
synagogue, the school can better
incorporate large group activities,
cooking, art and technology into
what they are doing with students.
Hebrew reading will not be
taught in school, and students will
no longer have Hebrew school on
weekday afternoons that conflict
with extra-curricular activities.
Learners in grades 4-7 who do not
attend day school will be taking
Hebrew online. They can choose
the day and time. The Hebrew
instruction will be one-on-one and
tailored to each child’s level.
Modern learners are interested
in being actively engaged in explor-
ing, wrestling with and under-
standing the topics they are learn-
ing about. They are also driven to
search for the modern relevance
of the subjects they are studying.
Therefore, instead of starting from
the ancient and moving to the
modern, B’nai Moshe students
will now be looking at challenges
in our modern lives and exploring
how Jews have navigated these
challenges throughout history.
This will allow them to connect to
generations before, learn our his-
tory and see, in action, how Jewish
life and values help us to lead a life
well lived.
This year, B’nai Moshe will be
introducing a monthly Blue Jean
Shabbat service open to all that
will be engaging, participatory
and camp style so that families
can come, daven, socialize and
celebrate Shabbat together. It will
also offer informal learning and
tzedakah opportunities through-
out the year.
Due to the generosity of some
congregants and grants, B’Nai
Moshe’s Sunday education pro-
gram is tuition-free with a paid
synagogue membership. This
includes the online Hebrew
instruction.

ing non-member rates), contact
