Fifty volunteers worked July 25 to set up items for packing and 90
volunteers showed up July 26 to stuff backpacks for NCJW’s annual
event to ensure a good start of the school year for 1,500 homeless and
low-income children in Oakland County. Volunteers ranged in age from
young children to grandparents.
The Oakland Schools Homeless Student Education Program supplied
1,200 backpacks; 300 backpacks were donated to children in need
through Jewish Family Service. •
