C
harlotte R. DeRoven,
96, of West
Bloomfield, died July
13, 2018.
She had a strong com-
mitment to the community
and civic engagement. She
became aware of the vital
need to expand emergency
medical services through-
out Oakland County. Mrs.
DeRoven was the consumer DeRoven
information chairwoman
as a member of the Oakland County
Emergency Medical Services Council.
In the early 1980s, she was instrumen-
tal in helping bring advanced life sup-
port services and the 911 emergency
telephone system to Oakland County.
She also had a love of learning and a
strong intellectual curiosity about the
history, religion, art and architecture
of other cultures. She avidly followed
current events throughout her life and
was a strong advocate for women’s
rights, civil rights and LGBTQ equal-
ity. She brought that sensibility to
bear as member of the Center for New
Thinking Board (a study group once
led by Rabbi Sherwin Wine) and as a
board member of the West Bloomfield
League of Women Voters.
Her appreciation for art and design
led her to serve as one of the first
docents at the Detroit Institute of
Arts.
Mrs. DeRoven was the beloved wife
of the late Dr. Marvin DeRoven; cher-
ished mother of Gail and the late Jack
P. Warren, Nancy and Bernardo Licata,
and Amy and Scott Friedman; proud
grandmother of Terri and Howard
Krugel, Zachary Fink and
Alyssa Fedele, Ellory Fink
and Tammie Visintainer,
Chase and Annie Fisher,

ing great-grandmother

Krugel, Weston Fisher,
and Charlie and Jayden
Visintainer Fink; loving

late Edward Klein, the late Stanford
Ruback and Jackie George; dear aunt
of Arlene Rubach and Scott Jones,

Anbender and Brian Hurley, and the
