MasterChef Junior contestant Sammy Vieder let an audience of 127 people
pick the ingredients for a mystery dish he had 30 minutes to create during
a recent fundraiser benefiting Friendship Circle. This 13-year-old Huntington
Woods resident quickly turned 11 random ingredients such as cauliflower,
basil, arugula and the spice za’atar into a delicious cauliflower steak. He
also answered questions about what it was like to be on the popular Fox
television show.
During the event, local chefs Annabel Cohen and Hunny Khodorkovsky
demonstrated and sampled kid-friendly recipes while Michelle Bommarito,
an accomplished chef and TV/radio personality, served as emcee.
The event, organized by Jennifer Lovy, the mother of a child who partici-
pates in a number of Friendship Circle programs, raised more than $9,000.
Friendship Circle is a nonprofit organization providing support, programs
and services to 3,000 individuals with special needs and their families. •
