Erwin Deutsch’s young
life came to an end
during the Shoah. But
his memory lives on,
thanks to a family
from farmington hills.
More than a million children perished in the Nazi death camps. Since children

Nazi killing machine.
It’s up to us to keep the memory of these children alive so that they are more than
mere statistics of a long ago atrocity.
Join the Adopt-A-Kaddish Project, sponsored by Hebrew Memorial Chapel and The
Holocaust Memorial Center, and commit to keeping the memory of a child alive in
your heart. We’ll send you personal information about your appointed child, along
with yearly Yahrzeit reminders and a Yizkor calendar. By pledging to recite Kaddish at
Yizkor and Yahrzeit services, you’ll keep the memory of a child alive throughout your
lifetime and the lives of your future generations.
It’s a beautiful way to promote respect for human rights and foster personal responsibility.

The Altman siblings were
raised to have a love of family,
Judaism and Jewish culture, all
reinforced by being together at
weekly Shabbat and other holi-
day dinners. Jules and Debbie
took their family to Israel, and
all three of their children and
all eight of their grandchildren
attended Hillel Day School in
Farmington Hills. The fam-
ily belonged to Congregation
Shaarey Zedek in Southfield.
“Grandpa Jules” found ways
to make his grandchildren feel
special. He was their cheer-
leader, always keeping up with
their lives and those of their
friends. Enduring memories
were created, including at the
family’s condo in Jupiter, Fla.,
over the last 30-plus years.
Jules also was a dutiful son
who visited and went shop-
ping for both his mother and
Windsor-based mother-in-law.
He stayed in touch with child-
hood friends while always
being happy to meet new
people.
Dr. Jules Altman is sur-
vived by his children,
Suzanne and Dr. Stuart
Gildenberg, Dr. David and
Jolie Altman, and Karen and
Gary Saretsky; grandchildren,
Melissa Gildenberg, Mitchell
Gildenberg, Brenna Gildenberg,
Aidan Altman, Sawyer Altman,
Carter Altman, Hannah Gould
and Ben Gould; Gary’s chil-
dren, Matthew and Young
Saretsky and Elyse Saretsky;
brother-in-law, Dr. Benjamin
Levine; former son-in-law, Seth
Gould; many loving nieces and
nephews.
Dr. Altman was the beloved
husband of the late Deborah
Altman; the loving brother
of the late Larry and the late
Mary Altman.
Interment was at Clover Hill
Park Cemetery. Contributions
may be made to Hillel Day
School, 32200 Middlebelt
Road, Farmington Hills, MI
