Presented by Jewish Senior Life’s
Program for Holocaust Survivors
and Families as part of the Ruth
Kent Memorial Video Series. The

ness for good food. They struggle
to retain part of their past while
remaining engaged in the present.

THROUGH AUG. 19: Play Ball!
In 1867, the new game of “base ball” was sweeping the nation and evolving from a simple child’s
game to a gentleman’s national pastime — and the Detroit area was host to the World’s Base Ball
Tournament. See how it was done at Historic Base Ball — no cussing, no spitting — as Greenfield
Village’s two teams, the National Base Ball Club (based on an 1867 Parma, Mich., club) and the
necktie-wearing Lah-De-Dahs (based on a club that played in Waterford in the 1880s) plus other vis-
iting teams take to the field each week. It all leads up to a World Tournament of Historic Base Ball,
complete with live 19th-century music. Just as in the original 1867 World’s Tournament, a $300 cash
prize will be awarded to the champion club, while the club with the fewest wins will receive a sack of
peanuts. Free with Village admission. Every Saturday and Sunday through Aug. 19. Greenfield Village,
Dearborn. (800) 835-5237; thehenryford.org.
JUNE 25: Ford Fireworks
JUNE 28: Marc ‘Skippy’ Price
Get in the mood for the Fourth of July while celebrating
the 60th anniversary of the Detroit fireworks. The Parade
Company pumps up the city as the producers of the Ford
Fireworks along the Detroit River. Get the best seats at the
Rooftop Party (5:30-11 p.m.; $275; $125 kids 6 and under)
— the Parade Company’s most spectacular fundraiser
of the year — on top of the Center Parking Garage next
to the Ren Cen, where the fireworks are enhanced with
food from Andiamo, interactive games for kids and live
entertainment. Theparade.org.
He may be best remembered as Skippy
from the ’80s sitcom Family Ties, but as a
standup comic, Marc Price has opened for
the likes of Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld and
more. He’s headed to the Maple Theater in
Bloomfield Township to get some laughs
for a good cause: to raise money for his
TV pal’s pet project, the Michael J. Fox
Foundation. $20 (includes popcorn).
(248) 750-1030; themapletheater.com.
