Prayer is a common practice of most
religions, but its format and message
vary greatly among different faiths.
The InterFaith Leadership Council
of Metropolitan Detroit is presenting
“Exploring Religious Landscapes,” an
educational series about the prayer
traditions of some of the religions
found in Metro Detroit.
The final program, “Communities
in Conversation: Comparing
and Contrasting Prayer in Faith
Traditions,” will be presented from
7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 28, at
Congregation Beth Shalom in Oak
Park. Representatives of Christianity,
Islam, Sikhism and Judaism will
discuss their individual prayer tradi-
tions. Presenters include Sister Mary
Ellen Sheehan, IHM; Dr. Howard
Lupovich, associate professor of
history and director of the Cohn-
Haddow Center for Judaic Studies at
Wayne State University; and Jasvir
Singh, a member of Gurdwara Sahib
Singh Sabha of Michigan, located
in Canton. The panel will be mod-
erated by Rabbi Robert Gamer of
Congregation Beth Shalom.
A dessert reception will follow
the program. The program cost is

Prentis Apartments by volunteers of NCJW | Michigan.
Intake and casework services are provided by Jewish Family Service.
The kitchen is under the supervision of the
Council of Orthodox Rabbis of Greater Detroit.

NCJW Installs New Offi cers
National Council of Jewish Women,
Michigan (NCJW|MI) held its annual
installation event at Knollwood
Country Club in West Bloomfield,
where new officers and board mem-
bers were installed, and awards were
presented to several NCJW women.
The program began with a wel-
come speech by a co-chair of the
event, Barbara Rosenthal, followed
by an annual report from Sandi Matz,
president of NCJW|MI, and a bylaws
presentation by Judy Rosenberg.
Susan Marwil delivered the nomi-
nating report while Cathy Cantor
installed new officers and board
members.
For the first time in NCJW history,
two co-presidents were installed:
Jennifer LoPatin and Sandi Matz. The
following women were installed: vice
presidents, Amy Cutler, Susie Jacob,
Sharon Leider, Randie Levin, Judy
Robinson and Susan Rollinger; trea-
surer, Sharyn J. Gallatin; recording
secretary, Lynn Lieberman; assistant
recording secretary, Margo Stocker;
and corresponding secretary, Gail
Katz.
Irma Glaser received the coveted
Hannah G. Solomon Award; Marian
Littman was presented with the new
Marsha Zucker Exemplary Board
Director Award; Margo Stocker
was recognized with the Emerging
Section Leader Award. Susan Gertner,
Esther Weitzman and Linda Rouff
received Staff Recognition Awards for
their respective 15, 10 and five years
of service to NCJW. Hamotzi was
delivered by Steve Matz, and a deli-
cious lunch was served. •
