Parents are the Heroes in Orthodontics Ask the Orthodontist By far the individuals with the most unappreciated role in the orthodontic treatment of a child are the parents. Who gets the phone call at the most inopportune time and must change their schedule at the last minute to bring the child in for some unexpected emergency? Who hears the words “I can’t fi nd my retainer”? Who worries about the child not brushing well enough, and who gets the complaining that something else is more important? The answer to all these questions is mom or dad. The parent also is the one who hears the gripes and woes of the patient.
