We have a few more to share. Arie Smargon of Huntington Woods was part of the famous rescue of 102 mostly Israeli Jews who were hostages when terrorists hijacked an Air France flight from Tel Aviv to Paris on July 4, 1976. Smargon was a special forces veteran of both the U.S. Army and the IDF. He lost his best friend Yonatan Netanyahu, brother of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in the Entebbe operation. Carley Sirlin of Bloomfield Hills served in the IDF Infantry Division from 2008-2010, then she earned her master’s degree in linguistics from Tel Aviv University. From 2001-2013, she then served in the Israeli Air Force. She now teaches Hebrew to grades K-5 at Lashon Academy in Van Nuys, Calif. On page 16 of the May 17 issue, dates of IDF service were incorrect for Dahlia Rosen Berkovitz of West Bloomfield, who served from 1972- 1974, and for Merav Hazan of West Bloomfield, who served from 1991- 1993. • Meet Israel’s Ambassador To The United States The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit will welcome Israel’s Ambassador to the United States Ron Dermer at 7 p.m. Monday, June 4, at Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington Hills.
