Z ’ L
S ARA S HAPIRO
Mother of Mickey Shapiro, one of our founding board members.
Sara survived the Holocaust having lost everything except her fervor for life and
desire to rebuild. Seventy-one years ago, she and her husband, Asa, left the embers of
war-ravaged Poland to marry and begin their family in a DP camp. They
emigrated to the United States to start their lives anew. Her remarkable resilience
helped create a multi-generational, devoted and loving family.
Sara and Asa enjoyed a wide circle of lifelong adoring friends, music, simchas, laughter,
philanthropy and synagogue life. We will miss her dearly.
The executive committee, board, administration and staff of
T HE J EWISH H OSPICE & C HAPLAINCY N ETWORK
offer wishes of comfort and heartfelt condolences to Sara’s family:
Beloved wife of 70 years of the late Asa Shapiro. Cherished mother of
Mickey Shapiro, Steven (Margie) Shapiro, and Eddie Shapiro.
Loving grandmother of Michael (Samantha) Shapiro, David Shapiro,
Lisa (Myles) Gold and Spencer Shapiro. Dear aunt of Daniel (Nehama) Guralnik.
