THROUGH MAY 10: FUNction

Multi-media West Bloomfield artist Laura Earle has three very different pieces included in the Janice
Charach exhibit “FUNction” — among them is Powerplay, a kinetic sculpture inspired by her travels
to Jerusalem and Yad Vashem, the Anne Frank House, Dachau, Auschwitz and Israel, where she expe-
rienced the “tensions between the communities living there,” she says. “It’s a physical experience of
the reality of interdependence, and illustrates viscerally the need to communicate and work together to
sustain balance.” Also included in the exhibit, which features more than 50 Michigan artists working in
ceramics and furniture, are artists John Rizzo, John DeHoog and Maxwell Davis. Janice Charach Gallery
in the West Bloomfield JCC. (248) 432-5579; charachgallery.org.
