Securing Our Future

Through the Centennial Fund, Dr. Marvin Siegel Honors
the Memory of His Beloved Wife, Gloria z”l

B

orn and raised in Detroit, Gloria z”l and Marvin
Siegel have been deeply connected to our local
Jewish community throughout their lives. They also
maintained a strong commitment to the welfare of the
Jewish people, as longtime Federation supporters as
well as through volunteer work. Marvin, a physician,
was president of the medical division (Maimonides
Society) while Gloria took a hands-on approach to
service, tutoring Russian immigrants and serving on
the board of Hebrew Free Loan. “We’ve always been
committed to local charities,” Marvin notes, “and
particularly to our local Jewish community. That’s
where our ties are.” In 2016, after 60 years of marriage,
Marvin lost his cherished wife, who was known for her
extraordinary kindness, compassion and Jewish spirit.
With these values in mind, Marvin has decided to
commemorate Gloria’s life through a gift to the Jewish
Federation’s Centennial Fund.

The gift also honors the Siegels’ three children, Michael,
Nancy (Heinrich) and Brian, each of whom are graduates
of the University of Michigan—Michael from the Medical
School and Nancy and Brian from the Law School. All
three are members of our local community. Michael is a
partner in Marvin’s dermatology practice, while Nancy
and Brian serve as the Chief Executive Officers of local
Jewish agencies, Nancy at Jewish Senior Life (JSL) and
Brian at the Jewish Community Center (JCC). Recog-
nizing this strong family connection to the community,
Marvin has designated the Centennial gift to be divided
equally between JSL and the JCC. “Gloria would be
proud to know that this donation was focused on these
two organizations,” he says. “It would make her very
happy to support the work of our children while also
making a difference in the lives of older adults at JSL, as
well as the many families and individuals of all ages who
benefit from their experiences at the JCC.”
