It was a full house as close to 50 community members gathered at
Jewish Family Service to talk about the best-selling memoir The Glass
Castle in anticipation of author Jeannette Walls’ upcoming appearance
at the agency’s 90th anniversary event on Wednesday, May 30, at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield.
While attendees lunched on sandwiches, salads and sweets,
moderator Tara Hayes, Ph.D. — known locally as the Book Club
Professor — led a thoughtful discussion on the many challenges Walls
and her family faced. •
