MAURICE WILSON, 83,
died peacefully in
Pomona Valley Hospital
in California on April 3,
2018, following a stroke.
He was born in
Detroit Aug. 10, 1934,
and went to Yeshivah
Wilson
Chachmey Lublin,
where he became pro-
ficient in Hebrew, Torah and Halachah.
Then he graduated from Cass Technical
High School.
He worked at United Dairies and then
managed a warehouse for West Side Auto
Parts in Detroit.
He met his future, beloved wife,
Mildred, in 1956 and married her on
March 3, 1957. They moved to Santa
Monica in 1977 and soon became heavily
involved in the local Jewish community.
They spent the next 40 years as pillars of
Pacific Jewish Center until Maurice’s ill-
ness in 2017. His beautiful baritone voice
filled the synagogue on Shabbos, holidays
and morning minyans.
He studied scripture all his life and
put his learning into practice for the PJC,
visiting the sick, helping people get to ser-
vices, readying the synagogue for Shabbos
and holidays, tutoring, and welcoming
newcomers and guests. The PJC was the
center of his and Mildred’s life. They were
a well-oiled team from the moment they
found PJC until Maurice became ill.
