DAILY DIM SUM & SUSHI

DAILY DIM SUM

“Street tacos are about the sauces,” Chef Moraitis explains.
“For one of our sauces, we caramelize a southwestern tomato
sauce and roast it with onions, garlic, peppers, chilies and
tomatoes. We want to give you the depth of flavor. It is not
hot where it will make you sweat. It is all about the complex-
ity, the layering and the enhancement.”
They also do have jalapenos, Verde and other hot sauces
that you would expect to accompany great Mexican food;
so, for those who like the fire, they have that covered, too. If
you have a gluten allergy, gluten-free menu items are clearly
marked.
People are still discovering this gem and the lunch crowds
from the surrounding medical buildings and offices are pick-
ing up.
For office parties and, more recently, for pharmaceutical
reps in the area who want to provide lunch
for their clients’ medical staff, Chef Moraitis
has catered and set up hot taco bars with
rice, beans, sauces and a variety of toppings.
So much better than those box lunches!
Although it has carryout and catering ser-
vices, this is not your typical Mexican carry-
out joint. If you want to meet up with friends
or coworkers for good food, drinks and con-
versation, this is the place. There are plenty
of televisions placed around the restaurant
and bar, but they are not enormous nor inva-
sive, and the volume is turned down. There is
enjoyable and melodic Mexican music play-
ing in the background, which is also not too
loud.
Happy hour is from 3-7 p.m. and features
$5 margaritas, discounts on pints, 22-ounce
beer and well drinks and $3 off appetizers.
For tequila fans, it might be important to
note that Mojito Rio Grande offers 21 types —
and they are available to taste in flights. This
adds to the considerable depth of the menu
of flavored margaritas and mojito drinks as
well.
While there are folks who come here to
watch sports, family meals are common
and usually conversation is the main event.
Mojito Rio Grande Amidst
all the store fronts, diners and other
29852 Northwestern Hwy. restaurants in the area, Mojito Rio Grande is
Southfield quietly growing in popularity and becoming
(248) 809-6210 known as the new Mexican restaurant that
mojitorio.com everyone needs to try.•
