Almost 40 years ago, artist Michele Oka Doner
created the large-scale floor installation Pages I
and II — a meditation on humans’ “original lan-
guage” in clay form, which became her first solo
museum show at the Detroit Institute of Arts. The
former Detroiter and U-M grad (who completed a
Miriam Cup for the Jewish Museum in New York
in 2009) returns to Detroit, along with the semi-
nal installation, plus two newly created works,
Pages III and IV, all under the title Fluent in the
Language of Dreams, at the Wasserman Projects.
