MAURICE TURETSKY,
82, of Santa Fe, N.M.,
passed away Feb. 20,
2018.
Maurice and his
wife, Susan Rosenblatt
Turetsky, moved to
Santa Fe from Michigan
Turetsky
in 1995. As an artist,
he was enthralled with
the clear light and blue
skies of New Mexico.
His passion for art and music was pro-
found. As a young man, he was groomed
to be a classical pianist. However,
he eventually gravitated toward the
visual arts. Once in New Mexico, images
of Billy the Kid and the lore of the
Southwest fascinated him. He became
well known as the Billy the Kid artist of
the Southwest. His work has been exhib-
ited in museums across New Mexico. He

was so fortunate to have a wonderful
studio attached to his beautiful home
where he would listen to classical music
while he painted and sculpted. Life was
good.
Mr. Turetsky is survived by his loving
wife of almost 52 years, Susan Turetsky.
He was the loving father of daughter,
Lauren Turetsky; his late son, Joshua
Turetsky; the very proud Papa of Shea
Turetsky-Cohen. He was also the son
of the late Isidor and the late Celia
Turetsky; the loving brother of Alvin
Turetsky of Philadelphia, Pa.; brother-in
law of Ethel Rosenblatt of Michigan and
the late Dr. Gary Rosenblatt; many won-
derful nephews, nieces and treasured
friends all over the world.
Services were held at Santa Fe
Memorial Gardens in Santa Fe.
Contributions may be sent to Museum
of New Mexico Foundation, c/o Karen
Kelly DuBroff, P.O. Box 2065, Santa Fe,
NM 87504-2065. Funds will be used to
erect a large steel cutout of Billy the Kid
for the town of Lincoln, N.M., as a fitting
tribute to his work. Local arrangements
by Ira Kaufman Chapel.
