G H UA N O H F INE C HINESE D INING stocked with craft beer and wine. The restaurant is conve- niently located next door to the Polish Market, also owned by the Kolyniczs. Servers dress in traditional Polish ceremonial attire, and the traditional Polish menu is representative of what you would find in Warsaw, not necessarily in Hamtramck. Plates of roasted pork shank, braised beef short rib, salmon tartare, steamed mussels and potato pancakes parade out of the kitchen. Menu offerings are upscale, and the No. 1 item is the Polish combo plate, which allows people to taste stuffed cabbage, kraut, city chicken and kielbasa among several more. Appetizers start at $7 and go up to $14 for the beef tenderloin. Entrees start at $9 and go up to $21 for the braised beef short rib, roasted pork shank and Norwegian salmon. The food is getting some outstanding reviews from din- ers. While the Polka Restaurant currently only serves dinner, it plans to start opening for lunch sometime this month. It is in the process of getting a handle on its volume and needs to make sure that it is ready to handle it. Tyler Herron, gen- eral manager of Polka Restaurant, says, “We serve 18 draft beers and about 65 different labels by the bottle. We offer some beer in a full 32-oz. mug.” He describes more than 60 vodkas, many from Poland, and European craft beers. Half of draft lines are locally produced, but he is focused on pro- curing the harder-to-find European craft beers. Desserts are on display near the front as well as on the menu. The top two desserts are mini paczkis and chocolate roulade. There is a large parking lot, and complimentary valet parking is offered on Fridays and Saturdays. “I don’t think there are any immediate local upscale Polish restaurants like this,” Herron says. “We are definitely unique.” He clarifies that Polka is not really concerned with anyone else’s menu. It is not trying to com- pete with anyone, but rather trying to provide an engaging and unique experience for diners. If you’re looking for a true Polish experience, come and visit Polka Restaurant. Bring the Polka Restaurant family; reservations are 2908 E. Maple Road, Troy accepted, and a children’s (248) 817-2601 menu is available. • gopolka.com “A wonderful adventure in fine dining” ~ Danny Raskin Open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner Catering and carryout available Gift certificates 27925 Orchard Lake Rd., North of 12 Mile, Farmington Hills 248-489-2280 www.honghuafinedining.com Try Our New Boneyard Beef Ribs!
