In Memory of
Madeleine H. Berman

The Board of Directors, Musicians, and Staff of the Detroit Symphony
Orchestra fondly remember DSO Director Emerita Madeleine H. Berman,
1927-2018. Madge and her late husband Bill Berman were lifelong
supporters of the orchestra and beloved members of our oneDSO family.

Madge’s leadership at the DSO extended from the board room to the
concert hall and into our community. A talented pianist who studied music
at Northwestern University, Madge had an abiding passion to bring music
to young people, which led to the creation of the DSO’s Classroom Edition
webcasts for tens of thousands of students each year. In June 2017, the DSO
was proud to honor Madge and Bill as DSO Heroes in recognition of their
immeasurable impact on the orchestra and throughout our region, across
the arts and humanities, education, healthcare, social services, and the
Jewish community.

We celebrate the life of Madge Berman. May her memory be a blessing.
