RUMORS ARE MANY on
why Blue Danube restaurant in
Windsor closed … And none of
them are true … After 42 years,
owners Sam and Zora Popadic
have gone into a very deserved
retirement … Former custom-
ers will always remember their
fine Hungarian dishes.
AMONG THE CITATIONS
that contributed to the clos-
ing of Como’s in Ferndale by
the Oakland County Health
Department was a woman
washing dishes without wear-
ing a cap over her hair … This
may not sound like much, but
it is an important reason …
Restaurant employees who
do not comply should not be
retained.
LOOK’S LIKE THIS year’s
28th Annual Hank Greenberg
Memorial Golf Invitational
by Michigan Jewish Sports
Foundation will again get the
sold-out sign … Baseball Hall
of Fame former Detroit Tiger
catcher Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez
honoree is always a lot of
fun on and off the field … It’s
Monday, June 11, at Franklin
Hills Country Club … The favor-
ite sports panel moderator is
usually ESPN’s Jeremy Schapp,
but since he, too, is being hon-
ored this year, Jeremy might not
do the moderating on answer-
ing questions … Dinner will be
the popular yearly barbecue
… Money raised will go to the
Lawrence and Idell Weisberg
Cancer Treatment Center …

Blatt, (248) 592-9323 for tickets.
FORMER DETROITER
Sheryll Bellman is among the
many who remembered one of
her favorite entrees at Darbys
in Sheryll’s book, America’s
Great Delis: Recipes and
Traditions from Coast to Coast
… “It’s the wonderful Darbys
recipe for Chicken Poulet,”
wrote Sheryll. “No place has
reached the status this deli had
and sadly will never see again.”
REARVIEW MIRROR …
Movie star Robert Cummings
was guest speaker at the Helen
Rosenberg Chapter, City of
Hope, and brought his usual
briefcase filled with vitamins
… It opened by mistake in the
lobby of Northwood Inn and
the pills flew all over the lobby
… The girls, Bob and myself
were on our knees picking
them up … Onlookers thought
we were crazy!
Q & A DEPT. … From Rosalie
Gorman … “In your article of
Dec. 21, 2017, there was men-
tion by Bill Ruskin of a deli in
Detroit that he thought started
with a ‘B.’ My grandfather Joe
Bolotin had a deli on 12th
called Bolotin & Levine. I won-
dered if, perhaps, that is one
Mr. Ruskin was talking about.”
[You could be right … I
lived on Pingree just across
12th Street in the Dover Court
Apartments.]

and Steve Katz, owner of Bake
Station Kosher Bakery, Orchard
Lake Road.
MAIL DEPT. … From Gary
Cochran, former owner of Beau
Jack’s … “I miss the restaurant
business and my customers,
who I really consider to be like
my family. If the right location
and deal came about, I would
take a hard look at getting back
into it. I don’t know when that
will be, and I have nothing set
in concrete.”
“LOOKS LIKE THE ones I
get at Tony’s Deli on Orchard
Lake Road, Sylvan Lake,” says
Allan Mann upon recently see-
ing an overloaded corned beef
sandwich on his computer.
PEOPLE DINING AT res-

amazed at how many other

rated musical group, traditional

OLDIE BUT GOODIE …
(Requests for repeats are hon-
ored) … The elderly couple had
trouble remembering things
so they went to the doctor for
a checkup. He told them they
were both fine but suggested
they write things down to
remember.
That evening, the man got
up to go to the kitchen for a
snack and asked his wife if she
wanted anything.
“Could you bring me a bowl
of ice cream?” she asked.
“Sure,” he replied.
“Do you think you should
write that down to remember?”
she asked.
“I can remember,” he said.
“I’d like some strawberries
on it, too. Do you need to write
that down?” she asked. “The
doctor said you should write
things down.”
“For goodness sakes, I can
remember that!” he said very
irritated.
Off he went and returned
with a plate of bacon and eggs.
The wife stared at him for a
moment and said, “Where’s my
toast!”
CONGRATS … To Jackie
Headapohl on her birthday …
To David Sachs on his birthday
… To Rhonda Ginsberg on her
birthday … (Errata … It’s anni-
versary 69, not 68 for Ed and
Suzi Radner). •
