The 25th anniversary of the Alex &
Marie Manoogian Museum and the
initial appointments in 2016 to the
Michigan Governor’s Council on
Holocaust and Genocide Education
were feted in a joint celebration.
These milestones were the basis
for presenting a special exhibit of
Armenian and Jewish artifacts from
the James & Ana Melikian Collection
from Scottsdale, Ariz., hosted
by the Manoogian Museum and
Richard Manoogian, chairman of the
Armenian Apostolic Society.
Manoogian remembered his par-
ents by stating “how proud they
would be of this moment as we cel-
ebrate the 25th anniversary of the
museum while also recognizing the
collaborative efforts of the Jewish
and Armenian communities.”
Richard Manoogian and Robert Taubman
Edmond Azadian, a member
of the Governor’s Council, senior
museum adviser and former execu-
tive assistant to Alex Manoogian,
acknowledged those instrumental
in the adoption of Michigan House
Bill 4493, requiring teaching of the
Armenian Genocide, the Jewish
Holocaust and other genocides in
Michigan high schools. The bill
was spearheaded by State Rep.
Klint Kesto. He welcomed Council
Chairperson Lori Talsky and her
husband, Alan Zekelman, and vice
chair Corrine Khederian.
The James & Ana Melikian
Collection is on view at the
Manoogian Museum through Jan.
15, 2018, by appointment. Visit
