FLORENCE MARIE
MORRIS (nee Alper),
89, of Huntington
Woods, passed away
Jan. 18, 2018.
Florence was born
in Detroit to Minnie
(Kroll) and Abe
Morris
Alper and grew up in
Traverse City.
She graduated from
Wayne State University,
where she met Donald, the love of
her life. A devoted daughter, wife and
mother, Florence lived a purposeful and
accomplished life with great passion
and intellect. With boundless energy
and enthusiasm, she pursued an all-
encompassing involvement in culture
and the arts, as well as an abiding con-
cern for social justice.
In 1958, together with her husband,
Florence established the Donald Morris
Gallery, which came to include their
sons. The gallery has grown and devel-
oped in prominence over the last six
decades into the renowned art business
it is today. Florence continued to partic-

ipate until her death, but her influence
and reputation live on. She was known
for being a connoisseur, for her profes-
sionalism and an ability to communi-
cate her profound knowledge of fine art.
Florence was beloved by clients and
colleagues and was held in high esteem
within the international community of
fine art collectors, dealers, scholars and
museum professionals.
In all her endeavors, professional and
personal, Florence’s primary goal was to
contribute toward building a better and
more beautiful world and, as she often
said, to “make a difference.”
Mrs. Morris is survived by devoted
sons and daughter-in-law, Mark C.
Morris, Steven A. Morris and Rachelle
Dwaihy; cherished cousins, Fanchon
Silberstein, Frances Valesco, Miriam
Valesco, Deborah Prohias and Dr.
Phillip Kroll; loving sister-in-law, Sylvia
Ann Morris-Dyer; brother-in-law, John
Dyer II; their children, Margaret Dyer-
Chamberlain, Elizabeth Dyer, Deb
Dyer, John Dyer III and Mary Kathleen
Wilkinson. She is also survived by the
Dwaihy family and many friends and

colleagues.
She was the beloved wife of the late
Donald F. Morris.
Interment was during a private
family service. Contributions may be
made to Detroit Institute of Arts, 5200
