“Doing the Impossible — Israel
Disaster Relief ” will be the focus of a
special evening featuring Col. (res.)
Dr. Ariel Bar, former chief medi-
cal officer, Home
Front Command of
the Israel Defense
Forces (IDF). The
event will be held
from 7-8:30 p.m.
Tuesday, Feb. 13, at
the Maple Theater in
Bloomfield Hills.
Dr. Ariel Bar
During the pro-
gram, Bar will discuss his work in the
IDF’s search-and-rescue forces, which
sends its corps around the world
in times of need, leaping into the
unknown to save as many lives as pos-
sible. He will share his personal stories
and experiences from his service in
the IDF’s field hospitals in India (2001),
Haiti (2010) and Japan (2011).

Bar is an eye surgeon. In addition
to his work with the IDF, he was a
member of the ethical committee of
the medical corps and Israel Medical
Association. He initiated the first
IPRED (International Preparedness
and Response to Emergencies and
Disasters) Conference and still runs
it today. He is also the author of three
novels and was the host of a radio pro-
gram on Galei Zahal, the official radio
station of Israel’s Army.
The event, open to the community,
will be followed by a dessert reception.
There is no charge to attend, but limit-

Hillel Of Metro Detroit Applebaum
Interns For 2018 Announced
Hillel of Metro Detroit has received
funding for four Applebaum Family
engagement interns. Each student
intern works to connect Jewish stu-
dents to Jewish life on campus and in
the Detroit community. The interns
also participate in monthly training
sessions and attended the Federations’
General Assembly in November in Los
Angeles.
Jessica Davidov
is a senior at Wayne
State University.
She is president of
Students for Israel
and a Hasbara fel-
low. She is currently
studying political
science and Near
Eastern studies with
Jessica Davidov
a concentration in
Hebrew.
Sam Halpern
is a sophomore
at Oakland
Community College.
He attended the
AIPAC policy confer-
ence through Hillel
of Metro Detroit last
year and called it

was very active in

Hadley Holman
is a junior at WSU
majoring in public
health. She is origi-
nally from Haslett,
Mich. Last summer,
Hadley went to Israel
on Birthright Israel

and had an incredi-
ble experience. Upon
her return home,
she spent the rest of
the summer work-
ing as a counselor at
Camp Ramah in the
Poconos.
Daniel Homer
is
a
sophomore at
Daniel Homer
WSU majoring in
kinesiology. Daniel
loves living in Midtown Detroit and
exploring the city. He is a dual citizen
of the United States and Israel. The
past few summers, Daniel has worked
as a counselor at Camp Tamarack.
He is an active student on the WSU
campus and a member of the Sigma Pi
Fraternity. •
