Amy Saari, jazz pianist, singer and songwriter, will perform with an accom- panying group of singers from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Muslim Center of Detroit. The concert series is pre- Amy Saari sented by the InterFaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit and the Detroit Interfaith Outreach Network (DION). The Muslim Center is located at 1605 W. Davison at the corner of Woodrow Wilson Street in Detroit. It was chosen as the first concert venue because of its Jazz Café, a unique fea- ture for a mosque, which was created to honor a member who performed in Count Basie’s orchestra. Amy Saari is an interfaith music minister with choirs at several local congregations. She also performs in a cabaret jazz trio, Ladybones. “The InterFaith Leadership Council of Metropolitan Detroit strives to build connections between different faiths, and cultural activities provide an enjoyable way to do that,” says Robert Bruttell, chairman. “We are pleased to join with DION to present this concert series.” “Music is a way to transcend differences and is a unifying method to learn from each other and appre- ciate one another’s background,” explains Rabbi Dorit Edut, founder of DION. “The music series introduces our groups to a variety of styles, from jazz to classi- cal to folk. And there will be time to socialize afterwards, too.” Concert tickets can be purchased in advance for $8 by check or money order to: DION, P.O. Box 70112, Huntington Woods, MI 48070. Tickets will be sold at the door for $10 and refreshments will be available for purchase. Concertgoers are asked to bring a non-perishable food item for the mosque’s Feed the Homeless Program.
