Lior Raz, co-creator and star of the hit Israeli Netflix series Fauda,
addressed some 700 Michigan Friends of the Israel Defense Forces
(FIDF) supporters late last year at its annual gala at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek in Southfield.
The gala raised funds to support 36 new FIDF IMPACT! Scholarships,
full four-year academic scholarships for combat veterans of modest
means; each scholarship costs $16,000. Funds raised also aid other
FIDF well-being and educational programs for soldiers.
The gala event was co-chaired by FIDF Michigan leaders:
Chairman Alon Kaufman, Vice President Shari Ferber Kaufman,
President Gary Shiffman and Lisa Shiffman. The evening also saluted
Michigan’s Jewish war veterans and Holocaust survivors, and honored
Brig. Gen. (Res.) Dr. Daniel Gold, who invented the “Iron Dome” missile
defense system that protects Israel from short-range rocket and artillery
attacks. •
