ARLENE SANDRA
NISKAR, 74, of
Ellenton, Fla., formerly
of Las Vegas, passed
away Dec. 19, 2017.
She was born Dec.
19, 1943, in Detroit
to Sidney and Jean
Niskar
(Meizler) Charness.
Arlene owned and
operated an optical store and then
worked as a bookkeeper for 10 years
while in Las Vegas. She was an avid
reader and mah jong player.
Considered the very best friend one
could have, Arlene had a wonderful
sense of humor and was a selfless, giving
woman. She was hardworking, indepen-
dent and took great pride in everything
she did.
Mrs. Niskar is survived by her chil-
dren, Terri (Wayne) Janda and Michael
Niskar; grandchildren, Alex Janda and
Nicolas Pheifer; brother, Larry Charness;
sister, Barbara (Ronnie) Blackman; a
number of very dear cousins, nieces and
nephews.
She was predeceased by her son, Gary
Niskar and granddaughter, Joella Niskar.
A memorial service was held on Dec.
22 at Temple Sinai, 9001 Hillpointe Road,
Las Vegas, NV 89134.

STEPHEN RICE, 70,
of Los Angeles, Calif.,
died Dec. 22, 2017.
He is survived by his
sons and daughter-in-
law, Adam Rice, and
Michael and Tracey
Stein; grandchildren,
Rice
Gracen and Jackson
Stein; brother and
sister-in-law, Stuart and Laura Rice; sis-
ter, Susan Rice; nephew and niece, Fred
and Noreen Rice; other loving relatives
and friends.
Mr. Rice was the beloved husband of
the late Ellen Kathy Rice; the devoted
son of the late Arthur and the late
Helen Rice.
Interment was at Beth El Memorial

SANFORD “BUDD” SCHAEFER, 92, of
West Bloomfield, passed away on Dec.
24, 2017, in Aventura, Fla., after a val-
iant fight with cancer.
He is survived by the love of his
life, wife, Marilyn (nee Wilber); a son
and daughter-in-law, Eric and Dawn
Schaefer; a daughter, Ilene Schaefer;
cherished granddaughter, Jennifer
Schaefer; and extended family, Dr. Mark
Kosins, Kathy Kosins, Dr. David Kosins;
brothers-in-law, Stuart Wilber (John);
granddaughter, Rose Kosins; nieces and
nephews; and the Monday night poker
players.
Services were held in Florida.

Shir Shalom or a charity of one’s choice.

SHEILA R. SHAYNE,
83, Oxford, Fla.,
passed away on Dec.
1, 2017, at the Villages
Hospice House in the
Villages, Fla.
She was born
on July 31, 1934, in
Shayne
Milwaukee, Wis., to
Lewis Marks and
Ruth (Brindes) Marks.
She was a former real estate broker
and had been the owner of Kensh
Corp. with her husband, Kenneth
Shayne. She and Kenneth moved to
Oxford 15 years ago from Treasure
Island, Fla., and in 1973 moved from
Milwaukee to Treasure Island.
Mrs. Shayne was a founding member
of Temple Shalom of Central Florida in
Oxford and started a local chapter of
Hadassah.
She is survived by her loving fam-
ily: sons and daughter-in-law, Joel and
Ruth Shayne of Farmington Hills, and
Glenn Shayne of Oxford; daughter,
Terri Misek of Longwood, Fla.; brother,
Richard Marks of Palm Desert, Calif.;
sister: Barbara Kolb of Grafton, Wis.;
grandchildren, Benjamin and Ashley
Shayne, Dorina and Nolan Burns,
Joshua Krafchick, Sari Misek; great-
grandchildren, Gabriel Shayne and
Elliana Shayne.
Services were held at Temple
Shalom of Central Florida. Interment
was at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens,
Leesburg, Fla. Those wishing to make
