Known as “Unky” by his family, Mr. Khoram took GM single hand- edly into Russia with a $3 billion deal. As Khoram part of his work with General Motors, he dealt with Nikita Khrushchev and Mikhail Gorbachev. Unky was also the translator for the Vice President Nixon-Khrushchev debates at the 1959 Fair in Moscow (see www.history.com/this-day-in- history/nixon-debates-khrushchev-at- a-fair-inmoscow). As a young child, he and his family moved to Tehran, Iran, to escape the pogroms in Russia. Unky received his engineering degree from Wayne State University. He worked as an engineer at GM, eventually becoming a vice president for sales in Russia and eastern Europe, where he interacted with Russian and other leaders. While an engineer at GM, he also taught Russian at Wayne State. He published a book titled Electrification of Railways in the U.S.S.R. in 1965. Well-traveled, well-educated and very respected, he was also a perfect gentleman and a remarkable person yet remained humble; he made every- one comfortable in his presence. His loyalty to his family and friends was amazing. Mr. Khoram is survived by his lov- ing partner for 18 years, Charlotte Robson; loving and devoted “Unky” to Rita Forbes (Howard) Golding, Esty Forbes (Michael) Lohnberg and Nikki Forbes (Mark) Segall; nine great-niec- es and great-nephews; 12 great-great- nieces and great-great-nephews. He was the dear husband of the late Shura Khoram and the late Bernadette Khoram; cherished brother of the late Rena (the late Joe) Forbes, and the late Beba Khoram. Mr. Koby was a mem- ber of Congregation Shaarey Zedek and, in younger years, a member of AZA and BBYO.
