EVELYN HOCHBERG BRANT, 97, of
West Hollywood, Calif., formerly of
Southfield, passed away peacefully on
Nov. 30, 2017.
She was born Oct. 30, 1920, to Meyer
and Florence Hochberg. She enjoyed
buying and selling antiques, loved to
knit, and she made fabulous sweaters
and afghan blankets for friends and
family members.
She is survived by her children, Susan
Brant of West Hollywood and George
Brant of Bend, Ore.; grandchildren,
Leslie (Max) Batten, Adam Brant and
Kory (Brant) Friedman; great-grandchil-
dren, Jason, Jacob, Maxwell, Levi and
Brixton.
Mrs. Brant was preceded in death
by her husband, Louis, and brothers,
Morris and Sidney.

HANNAH STARKMAN
KENT, 88, of New York,
died Dec. 8, 2017.
A loving wife, moth-
er, sister, in-law, grand-
mother and friend
to many, she passed
away peacefully after
a lengthy illness, sur-
rounded by love through her last breath.
A survivor and orphan of the
Holocaust, she arrived in the United
States on the ship, Marine Flasher, the
first transport ship of orphans from
Europe to the United States and made
her start in Detroit with her brother
Henry, who pre-deceased her.
She was a graduate of Wayne State,
working as an accountant until her two
children became her career focus. She
was the silent support and backbone
for her husband Roman’s philanthropic
endeavors. She had a love and flare for
cooking and enjoyed extensive travels
around the world.
Her smile, grace, and class will be
greatly missed by all who knew her.

ELISSA ANN LEIDER,
79, of Novi, died Dec.
11, 2017.
She is survived by

sister-in-law, Sandy and Jill Friedman of
Honolulu, Hawaii; grandchildren, Daniel
Enfield, Sara Enfield, Melissa Leider,
Jennifer Leider; many loving nieces and
nephews.
Mrs. Leider was the beloved wife of
the late Harry Leider.

MURRAY JAY
LIBERMAN, of Ann
Arbor, died Dec. 15,
2017, his 92nd birthday.
He was born in the
Bronx in 1925, moved to
Detroit when he was 13,
attended Central High
Liberman
School and, after gradu-
ation, was drafted into
the Air Force; he served as a radio opera-
tor in Norway during WWII.
With his father, Sam, Murray opened
Liberman’s Delicatessen in Detroit’s
Jewish neighborhood on Dexter and in
Oak Park on Nine Mile Rd.
In 1947, he married Evelyn Horowitz,
to whom he was happily married for
70 years. After selling the delicatessen
in 1961 to Stage Deli, Murray went to
work for Raskin Foods and Gunsberg
Meats and then opened Liberman Meat
Products in 1976, where he was until his
retirement in 1985.
Murray and Evelyn moved from
Southfield to Detroit and enjoyed living
in the city for 31 years before moving to
Glacier Hills Senior Living Community in
Ann Arbor.
Mr. Liberman is survived by his
wife, Evelyn Liberman; children, Anita
Liberman-Lampear (Alan Lampear),
Reena Liberman (Peter Nagourney)
and Wallace H. Liberman (Stephanie
Dickinson); grandchildren, Sara
Lampear, Ari Lampear (Caren Minkoff),
Tal Nagourney, Micah Nagourney,
Shayna Liberman, Tori Liberman and
Kayli Liberman; great-grandchild, Eva
Lampear; many nieces and nephews;
cousins, Arella Barlev, Joshua and Beryl
Barlev, Sybil and Julius Lepkowski.
He was the son of the late Dora and the
late Simon Liberman; brother-in-law of
the late Louis (the late Helen) Horowitz,
the late Joseph (the late Doris) Horowitz;
the late Max (the late Beatrice) Horowitz
and the late Lawrence (the late Phyllis)
Horowitz.
