Well
‘Fed’
in Clarkston

ALLISON JACOBS CONTRIBUTING WRITER

old Federal Reserve Bank.

and vintage touches.

S

arah and James Schneider are
no strangers to entertaining at
home, but they always had the
desire to take their talents a step
further. After years of dreaming up
their own hosting venue, they now
throw a daily dinner party for hun-
dreds of guests at their own restau-
rant, The Fed.
Over the course of two-and-a-
half years, the Schneiders com-
pletely revamped the 100-year-old
Federal Reserve Bank in downtown
Clarkston. They named the restau-
rant The Fed, in honor of the bank’s
former title and, of course, its new
identity.
While James is more business-
minded, Sarah is the creative guru.
With a natural eye for design, she
crafted the restaurant’s ambiance.
Eager to create an eye-catching
look for The Fed, she spent count-
less hours mixing and matching
pieces, incorporating a tasteful
blend of vintage and modern styles.
High ceilings and warm light-
ing are featured on the main level,

along with light wood tables and a
crisp, ivory-toned bar. The basement
area is more intimate, yet spacious,
featuring a dimly lit bar and plush
sofas.
Several elements of the bank
remain fully intact, with stacks of
safety deposit boxes lining the walls
of the downstairs restroom. People
can reserve one of two former vaults,
which have been transformed into
exclusive dining areas.
Like the restaurant’s atmosphere,
