Cook Shields The Davidsons The Barbara Ann Karmanos Cancer Institute presented its 2017 Heroes of Cancer at an awards ceremony held Nov. 15, recognizing champi- ons in 15 award categories. These individuals and organizations raise awareness of cancer prevention, early detection and survivorship; help fund programs to help cancer patients and their families; and help advance cancer research for those with all types of cancer. Following are some of this year’s inspir- ing heroes. The Detroit Historical Society announced it will debut a new Moving Forward Award to recognize individuals who are helping to transform our communities in meaningful ways. A part of the society’s award-winning project Detroit 67: Looking Back to Move Forward, this honor will recog- nize inspirational and transformational leaders annually.
