GRACE KATHERINE
GOODMAN, 99, passed
away Nov. 24, 2017, in
West Hartford, Conn.,
where she had resided
for the past 10 years.
She was born in
Detroit to Morris and
Goodman
Jennie Goldberg on
April 11, 1918. Grace
was strong, friendly,
insightful, curious and
an attentive listener. She had an appre-
ciation of the arts, a wicked sense of
humor, and was a great mah jong and
bridge player
Her many trips with her husband,
Syd, including those with other family
members, remained some of her fondest
memories and included spending her
winters in San Diego for 25 years.
She cultivated and nourished many
friendships, some for decades. Always
immaculately dressed, she also took
pride in creating and maintaining a love-
ly home, which meant lots of shopping
(or “schmy-dry” as she liked to say).
Her joy in good food and especially
chocolate, meant lots of walking and
swimming. She’d often note that she built

the Southfield Weight Watchers Building.
Grace was indeed a very special woman
who in many ways was ahead of her time.
She remained open to new ideas, cuisine,
current issues and world affairs although
she had no love for electronics. Her fam-
ily was an integral part of her happiness
and she will be missed by all who knew
her; her wit and wisdom will live on.
Mrs. Goodman is survived by daugh-
ters, Karen Goodman (Joel Caplan),
Judith Ann Hampton (Michael) and
Barbara Goodman; grandchildren, Evan
Rosen (Eve Bridburg), Jennifer Diel
(Matthew), Alicia Taylor (Jay) and Jared
Nelson; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Andrea
Taylor, who provided great care and
companionship during Grace’s last six
months.
Grace was preceded in death by her
loving husband of 63 years, Sydney L.
Goodman.
Services were held at Dorfman Chapel.
