DAVID FRIEDMAN,
96, of Livonia, former-
ly of Farmington Hills,
died Nov. 20, 2017.
The oldest of five
siblings, he was
a decorated Navy
senior-grade lieuten-
ant. Mr. Friedman was

a former commander of the Silverman
Post of Jewish War Veterans, a past
president of Centennial Lodge of B’nai
B’rith, a member of Oak Park Masonic
Lodge and a member of Young Israel
of Greenfield.
An engineer, he also was an insur-
ance agent. A humble man, he had a
very rare blood type and throughout
his life has saved thousands of others
with his blood donations.
Mr. Friedman is survived by his
daughter and son-in-law, Alisa and
Vitaly Grossman of West Bloomfield;
grandchildren, Joshua Grossman,
Alexandra Grossman; brother-in-law
and sisters-in-law, Earl and Debra
Serap, Sharon Rubinstein.
He was the beloved husband of the
late Helen Handelzaltz Friedman; lov-
ing son of the late Lena and the late
Samuel Friedman; dear brother and
brother-in-law of the late Herman
Friedman, the late Albert Friedman,
the late Irving Friedman, the late
Bernard Friedman, the late Harry
Rubinstein; dear son-in-law of the late
Sarah and the late Louis Serebnitsky.

FRANK GOBEL, 89, of
Boynton Beach, Fla.,
formerly of West
Bloomfield, passed
away Oct. 29, 2017.
To know Frank was
to love him; he was
“one of the good guys.”

He is remembered as
c. 1970
smart, kind, funny, lov-
ing and generous to a
fault. He had a lifelong
passion for jazz/big band standards
and was a great golfer. He famously
made jazz-mix CDs, deejaying trivia for
each song and distributing the CDs to
jazz-loving family and friends.
Frank loved telling great jokes,
always carrying a collection of the
punchlines to his favorite jokes. He
fiercely loved his family and close
friends.
Mr. Gobel is deeply missed by his
wife, Charlotte; his children, Steven
(Honey) Gobel of Highland Park, Ill.,
Gail (Mike) Atkin of Castaic, Calif., and
Shawna Gobel (Denise Wunderlich)
of Oak Park, Mich.; his grandchildren,
Jordan, Jaime, Lindsey and Matt; a
niece and nephews. and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his cherished
sister and brother-in-law, Murt and
Bud Sherbow.

WILLY GOOSE, 87, of West Bloomfield,
died Nov. 25, 2017.
He is survived by his beloved wife,
Karen Kahn Goose; daughter and son-
in-law, Fritzi and Janos Pesti; sister,
Celia Roth; sisters-in-law, Marci (Larry)
Coggan, Sarai (David) Bowser; brother-
in-law, Douglas (Dee Dee) Kahn; many
loving nieces, nephews, other family
members and friends.
Mr. Goose was the brother of the
late Eva Gerson, the late Nettie Biegal,
the late Shirley Katz, the late Rose
Chankin, the late Ann Schonberg, the
late Max Goose, the late Hymie Goose
and the late David Goose; brother-in-
law of the late Leonard Roth.
Interment took place at Beth El
Memorial Park Cemetery in Livonia.

LAWRENCE
KATKOWSKY, 75, of
Huntington Woods,
died Nov. 17, 2017.
A trial lawyer for 45
years, he loved help-
ing people. His love of
music brought him to
Katkowsky
the Langsford Men’s
Chorus. He sang in
choirs for the High
Holidays since he was a teenager.
In 1993, he founded the Zamir
Chorale of Metropolitan Detroit. He
played the guitar and was able to
make his own instrument from scratch
before getting ill. He loved motorcycles
and traveled the country with his wife.
He represented Abate of Michigan and
Aid to Injured Motorcyclists for many
years.
Mr. Katkowsky was an avid reader
and loved U of M football. His love for
his family always came first, and he
was adored by his grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
Mr. Katkowsky is survived by his
wife, Natalie Katkowsky; daughter,
Freya Katkowsky of Madison, Wis.;
sons and daughters-in-law, David and
Bracha Katkowsky of Southfield, David
and Susan Prohow of Jacksonville, Fla.;
brother and sister-in-law, Robert and
Susie Katkowsky; sisters and brothers-
in-law, Ann and Michael Press, Marilyn
and Clarence Turner; grandchildren,
