A core focus of the Temple Kol Ami
religious school is memorable, expe-
riential Jewish activities for its stu-
dents. During a recent Sunday school
session, a group of fifth- and sixth-
graders made beautiful yads to be
used at their bar and bat mitzvahs.
Gail Rosenbloom-Kaplan, who
runs Yada Yada Yad, brought yads
and bin after bin of decorative items

from the yad’s hand. The kids were
very serious about deciding how
to decorate their yads, even to the
point of making decisions about the
type and size of the object to put at
the part of the yad where it would be
held in their fingers.
Several students commented
about how excited they were to
make the yad they would use on
their special day a year or two from
now. •
