Rachel is a seventh-grader at West Hills Middle School in Bloomfield Hills. Her most meaningful mitzvah project was collecting hundreds of new and gently used children’s books to donate to an elementary school in Detroit. Alex Steven Engel will become a bar mitzvah at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield on Saturday, Nov. 18. He will be joined in celebration by his proud parents, Engel Marilyn Charnes Engel and Dr. Jerry Engel, and sister Michelle. Alex is the loving grandchild of Margie and Allen Charnes, and Sarah and the late Stanley Engel. Alex is a student at Walnut Creek Middle School in West Bloomfield. For his most meaningful mitz- vah project, he volunteered with the horse program at the West Bloomfield-based Friendship Circle Summer Camp. Morgan Cascade Goldberg (Moshe David) of Bloomfield Hills, will become a bar mitzvah at Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington Hills Goldberg on Sunday, Nov. 19. He is the son of Rebecca Goldberg and Craig Goldberg. His grandparents are Joel and Lynn Levi, and Jean Cascade. He is also the grandchild of the late Sam Cascade, the late Milton Goldberg and the late Jan Levi. His siblings are Ari and Julia. Morgan attends Berkshire Middle School in Beverly Hills. For his mitz- vah project he volunteered at St. Leo’s Soup Kitchen in Detroit. Samuel Hayden Goodman (Samuel Hadar), son of Kimberly and Gary Goodman, will become a bar mitz- vah at Temple Beth El in Bloomfield Goodman Township on Saturday, Nov. 18. Sam is the younger brother of Ryan and the grandson of the late Debra Steinberg, Ron Steinberg, Barbi and Ed Krass, and Peter Goodman. He is a seventh-grader at Berkshire Middle School in Beverly Hills. In addition to the mitzvot performed with the Temple Beth El Religious School, Sam found hosting several of his birthday parties as fun- draisers for holiday gifts for children in need as most meaningful. Abbey Gray will lead the congrega- tion in prayer on the occasion of her bat mitzvah at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield on Friday, Nov. 17. She Gray will be joined in celebration by her proud parents, Lisa Kourkouliotis and Jeffrey Slomovitz, and sister Alyssa. Abbey is the loving grandchild of Patricia Kourkouliotis, Joan Gray, and Paula and Murray Slomovitz. She is a student at Warner Middle School in Farmington Hills. As part of her most meaningful mitzvah experience, Abbey volunteered for several years for the Susan G. Komen three-day Walk for A Cure and raised money for donation to breast cancer research. Sam Melder of Farmington Hills will become a bar mitzvah at Temple Shir Shalom in West Bloomfield on Saturday, Nov. 18. Participating in the Melder ceremony will be Aric and Bari Melder, his parents, and Ryan Melder, his brother. Proud grandparents are Elaine and Sanford Melder, and Barbara Zipkin. He is also the grandchild of the late Harvey Zipkin. Sam is a student at Warner Middle School in Farmington Hills. For his mitzvah project, he collected funds from bagel sales at Shir Shalom for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Caleb “Coby” Robbins celebrated his bar mitzvah on Saturday, Oct. 28, at B’nai Israel Synagogue in West Bloomfield. He is the son of Rabbi Mark and Amy Robbins Robbins and the brother of Adina. He is the grandson of Nelson and Shelly Wolf of Wynnewood, Pa., and Arthur and Judy Robbins of Providence, R.I. Caleb is a seventh-grader at Hillel Day School of Metropolitan Detroit in Farmington Hills. He volunteered at the Friendship Circle in West Bloomfield and greatly enjoyed get- ting to know the kids.
