jews d & in the ORT held its ninth annual Camp Hermelin fundraiser Sept. 17 at the Bingham Farms home of Doreen Hermelin. The event allowed more than 900 kids, parents and grandparents to reconnect with camp friends and staff while enjoying a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, sports, dance, tug-of-war and more, run by 12 local camps and 11 activity-based businesses. Event co-chairs Carole Ben-Ezra, Melissa Feldman and Shayna Levine, along with the planning committee, raised close to $70,000 to benefit at-risk ORT students in Israel. Additionally, there were eight raffle prizes of free or deeply discounted camp tuition places PHOTOS BY JAY DREIFUS PHOTOGRAPHY faces donated by the participating camps. The ninth was “The Camper’s Choice,” awarding a $2,500 credit toward any summer experience or organized trip in 2017-2018. The Suburban Collection was the presenting sponsor. Camp Hermelin 2018 is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 16.
