WISDOM’s greatest achievement is its panel discussion, “Five Women, Five Journeys,” which has been pre- sented to many houses of worship, schools and organizations. The group’s challenge is to bring together people from different faith traditions, ethnicities, races and cul- tures to engage in educational and community service projects. “The 10-year anniversary celebra- tion at North Congregational Church in Farmington Hills Oct. 15 was an opportunity to shout out to everyone in attendance that WISDOM wants to change our world through the positive power of building relation- ships, discovering similarities and respecting differences,” Katz said. • Visit interfaithwisdom.org, subscribe to the newsletter and join events; or email Gail Katz at gail@interfaithwisdom.org. It began in 2006, when Gail Katz (Jewish), Trish Harris (Catholic) and Shahina Begg (Muslim) met and decided to continue their conversations over the course of a few months. Because of the tensions in the Middle East, Iraq and Darfur con- stantly in the news, these women felt that communities of faith in Metro Detroit were becoming more and more segregated. They felt that maybe women could make a differ- ence, that women had the capacity for empathy and connecting spiritu- ally. WISDOM became a nonprofit organization in 2007, and for 10 years has been proposing interfaith events to give people the chance to listen to each other, respect each other’s differences and take action toward change.
