The Zionist Organization of America-
Michigan Region will present awards of merit
to distinguished community members at
this year’s annual dinner, 5:30 p.m. Sunday,
Nov. 12, at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in
Southfield.
The awards will be presented at the 83rd
Annual Balfour Celebration, which will
include a strolling dinner and a musical con-
cert.
The Justice Louis D. Brandeis Award will be
presented to Hazzan David and Karen Propis,
dedicated lifelong supporters of Israel. ZOA-
Michigan Region will also present its Friend
of Israel Award to Allen and Karen Amber,
deserving and passionate Zionists.

19th Annual Cookies N’ Dreams

More than 500 guests are expected to
converge for the 19th annual Cookies
N’ Dreams in the North Grand Court
of the Somerset Collection in Troy on
Thursday, Oct. 26, from 5-7:30 p.m. to
benefit Camp Mak-A-Dream.
Cookies N’ Dreams raises funds
to send children and young adults
touched by cancer to Camp Mak-
A-Dream in Montana for a week,
cost-free. Featuring multiple stations
of homemade cookies, donuts and
numerous baked goods from 18 local
bakers, event-goers vote in a contest
to reward the best tasty treat of the

evening.
“Each year, the funds raised from
Cookies N’ Dreams are essential to
making camp for cancer patients
accessible and cost-free,” said Pete
Grimes, executive director of Friends
of Camp Mak-A-Dream, Michigan
Chapter. “We look forward to another
great evening to celebrate this impor-
tant cause.”

Ticket price for adults is $60 and
children 3-17 pay their age. •

Musical Shabbat

The committee for Unity Shabbat -
West Bloomfield invites the public
to a musical Havdalah service at
Sara Tugman Bais Chabad Torah
Center on Saturday, Oct. 28, at 8
p.m.
The musical program, led by Avy
Shreiber, will be followed by the
screening of the Israeli film The
Wedding Plan.
Soup, crackers and other light
refreshments will be served. A $5
donation is recommended. The

event is open to both children and
adults.
This event is taking place in con-
junction with many similar events
celebrated around the globe on the
Shabbat of Oct. 28 with the purpose
of promoting Shabbat awareness.
