ETHEL RACHEL
GOLDSTEIN, 93,
passed away Oct. 3,
2017, in La Jolla,
Calif.
She was tough
and strong-willed
and a devoted
mother, loving
Goldstein
wife and generous
grandmother.
Born in Detroit,
Ethel was the youngest daugh-
ter of five children, Dorothy
(Frank) Bushta, Beatrice (Harry)
Weiner, Sylvia (Julius) Kaplan, and
Emanual (Jacqueline) Bartick. When
she graduated from high school, she
joined the Women’s Auxiliary Corps.
Ethel married Isadore Bizon
Goldstein, who became a success-
ful merchant in the retail/wholesale
business, Bizon Sales Co. She proved
to be a successful partner in her
husband’s business.
Ethel was a seeker, never hesitat-
ing on her path of self-improve-
ment. That self-examination
informed the rest of her life. Her
constants in life were her love
of the stock market and politics.
Watching the ups and downs of each
brought her joy, enlisted fury and
lately, pride.
Ethel was always true to herself
and said what she believed. She
loved her nieces and nephews, and
they returned her love. Her feisti-
ness, deep belief in her truth and
her tender love for her family are
the qualities that made her a one-
of-a- kind — a tough bird who said
and did as she thought best. The
family feels blessed to have known
and been loved by such a woman.
Mrs. Goldstein is survived by her
two daughters, Deborah Carnick
(Daniel Carnick) and Marci van
Adelsberg (Trevor van Adelsberg);
grandchildren, Lyle David Carnick
(Rachel Carnick), Michael Carnick,
Samatha van Adelsberg and Jack
van Adelsberg; great-granddaughter,
Orly Belle Carnick.
Contributions may be made to
the Jewish War Veterans, P.O. Box
725066, Berkley, MI 48072-9998; or
ASPCA, www.aspca.org. Services
and interment were held at Hebrew
Memorial Park. Arrangements by
Hebrew Memorial Chapel.
