More than 300 people enjoyed the sixth annual Suburban-Urban Interfaith Unity Picnic Aug. 6 on Belle Isle. Performers included Reb Steve Klaper and Brother Al Mascia of the Song and Spirit Institute, and Baz Michaeli’s students from the Michigan Center for Capoeira (tmc4c.com) did a lively demonstration of the Brazilian martial art. There was much singing and many different musical perform- ers; prayers from the Sikh, Muslim, Methodist, Unificationist and Jewish traditions; and face-painting and games for the little ones. Teens enjoyed soccer and drumming. Israeli dancing was led by Rabbi Dorit Edut. A raffle raised funds for Vista Maria. The event was organized by the Detroit Interfaith Outreach Network in cooperation with other faith-based and civic organizations, including the Association for Youth Empowerment, the Metro Family Church, the Interfaith Leadership Council of Metro Detroit, the Islamic Organization of North America, the United Methodist Church, CrimeStoppers of Southeast Michigan and Pine Hill Congregational Church, among others. • OPENING FALL 2017 IN OAKLAND COUNTY!
