Judge Gerald Rosen Honored
Water Is A
Human Right
How can we forget the horrific Flint water
crisis? What we don’t know is that many
Flint residents are still without water in
their homes.
In addition, there is an ongoing cri-
sis right here in Detroit. Fewer than
three years ago, the Detroit Water and
Sewerage Department made a press
announcement of a controversial water
shutoff plan disconnecting 140,000 resi-
dents — 40 percent of Detroiters — from
water. The city began shutting off water
to homes that owed $150 or more. The
shutoffs contributed to increased cases of
e. coli, salmonella, pneumonia and severe
blood infections in Wayne County. This
health crisis associated with the shutoffs
was not well reported. And there are still
many families without access to clean
affordable water.
Join Detroit Jews for Justice for an
educational forum on the public health
impact of the regional water crisis, hosted
in partnership with Temple Kol Ami in
West Bloomfield, at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct.
23. Learn to help bring change as a social
justice advocate. RSVP to
detroitjewsforjustice.org/water_forum. •
