Three days, six classic film-noir gems! The Redford Theatre presents Noir City Detroit, its second-annual
Detroit film-noir festival. Hosted by Czar of Noir Eddie Muller, founder of the Film Noir Foundation, the
festival kicks off with a double-feature of two films by Jacques Tourneur: Out of the Past (1947, starring
Robert Mitchum and Kirk Douglas, shown) and Nightfall (1957, starring Anne Bancroft and Brian Keith).
Other films to be screened include Gun Crazy, Try and Get Me, The Asphalt Jungle (directed by John
Huston and starring Marilyn Monroe and Sam Jaffe — born Shalom Jaffe, his mother was a Yiddish

THROUGH OCT. 14: Calendar Girls

The Farmington Players opens its season with the real-
life story that inspired the 2003 British movie of the same
name: Calendar Girls brings to life a group of ladies who
pose nude for a calendar to benefit their local hospital —
and the effects that has on their small town. Written for
both screen and stage by Tim Firth, the touching comedy
is directed by Nancy Cooper. In keeping with the spirit
of the story, the cast and crew of the production have
created a 2018 calendar ($10; available at all shows
and at farmingtonplayers.org) to benefit the Leukemia &
