JON SCHNEIDER, 50, of San Diego, Calif., passed away on Sept. 6, 2017, after a coura- geous eight-month bat- tle with cancer. Jon embraced life and maintained a Schneider remarkable will to live, asking “What’s next?” until his last days. He looked forward to the upcoming holidays and simchahs with family. He adored his wife, Molly, more than words can say, and she was his determined and constant best friend and advocate, by his side day and night during his illness. Jon was a hockey player and an avid sports fan who was true to the Padres through thick and thin, but his truest allegiances were to his home team, the New York Yankees (Jon grew up in Hewlett, N.Y.), the Arizona State Sun Devils, his alma mater, and, above all, the Powerhouse, Little League, compe- tition dance groups, ASB committees and other pursuits of his incredibly tal- ented kids. Most recently, he was a huge Alabama fan; it is where his daughter Allie attends school. Jon, most of all, loved his family, including his in-laws, his extended family and the friends who have been so close that they really are family. He was also exceptionally devoted to the Jewish community in San Diego, Israel and around the world. Jon was a member of the Jewish Federation of North America’s Young Leadership Cabinet and traveled with the cabinet to communities in need around the world, experiences that moved him pro- foundly. He was a member of the board of the Jewish Federation of San Diego and a chair of its Israel and Overseas Committee. Jewish continuity, connec- tion and tikkun olam were his guiding principles. He was a longtime member of Congregation Beth Israel. Jon moved to San Diego not long after graduating from Arizona State University and made it his home. Though a 25-year resident of Southern California, Jon always remained a con- summate New Yorker and never lost his taste for a real pastrami sandwich and good slice of pizza. But it was in San Diego where he met Molly and began a career in sports marketing, where he made lifelong relationships and friend- ships with colleagues around the world. He was also a watch aficionado and spent years traveling and pursuing that business as well. Jon’s happiest and proudest moments were sharing in both the remarkable accomplishments and the everyday con- versations with his family. Jon was truly a treasure; he will be sorely missed and remembered forever. Mr. Schneider was the loving husband of Molly Hauser Schneider; the devoted father of three wonderful children, Allison, Melissa and Jeremy; the son of Gail and Ira Schneider of Scottsdale, Ariz.; brother of Meredith Schneider of Scottsdale; son-in-law of Jan and Mark Hauser of Bloomfield Hills; brother-in- law of Sandy Hauser and Jeff Parness of New York City, and Michael and Julie Hauser of Oak Park; uncle of nine special nieces and nephews. Jon leaves behind aunts, uncles and cousins, whom he adored, and many, many good friends. The family wishes to thank the doc- tors and incredible staff at UCSD for their wonderful support. IRVING SIEGEL, 99, of Southfield, died Sept. 8, 2017. He was an active member and volunteer with B’nai B’rith, JARC, ALS and many other charitable organiza- Siegel tions. He was also the oldest and longest- standing member of Wabeek Country Club. Mr. Siegel is survived by his wife, Evelyn Taylor Siegel; son and daughter- in-law, Howard and Suzanne Siegel of Troy; daughters and son-in-law, Bobbie and Bill Best of Hawaii, Lisa Taylor of West Bloomfield, Diane Hopp; grandchildren, Russ and Kari Siegel, Laura and Jay Hamby, Danielle Glazer, Matthew and Tanya Woerdeman, Joshua Woerdeman, Aimee Fleeter, Richard and Beth Taylor, Julie Newman, Brian and Marianne Newman; great-grandchil- dren, Daniel Siegel, Tova Siegel, Oliver Hamby, Ella Hamby, Elijah Woerdeman, Samantha Fleeter, Jack Taylor, Kate Taylor, Sara Taylor and Victoria; daugh- ter-in-law, Elaine Siegel; many other lov- ing family members and friends. continued on page 128 ANYONE CAN ACKNOWLEDGE THAT A PERSON HAS DIED.
