Dining Success At Chef ’s Table 12

Danny Raskin

Senior Columnist

Newly opened

restaurant earns

accolades quickly.

Ophilia Gojcaj

Taking over the site of a for-
mer restaurant is rarely easy
… Especially when that previ-
ous restaurant had achieved a
reputation of ultra-successful
upscale dining.
Extremely beautiful and
independent Chef ’s Table 12,
so named because of its avenue
location, located on 12 Mile,
just west of Orchard Lake Road,
Farmington Hills, previous
locale of Tribute, has met the
task head-on with success …
And can now enjoy the fruits of
achievement.
High value at lower prices
of elegant upscale dining is
of great inducement … It is
coupled with the supreme most
important assets of ultra-clean-
liness and delicious upscale
cuisine properly prepared and
served, in giving the new Chef ’s
Table 12 a coveted reputation
of customer come-back for the
many who have experienced
delightful visits.
Maximum know-how by
esteemed chefs with notable
backgrounds in food prepara-
tion is extremely important
… and a valuable asset in the
offering of menu suggestions
such as Colorado Lamb Chops,
dry-aged New York strip,
8-ounce filet, chicken breast,
tiger prawns, bronzed sea
scallops, etc., that have been
received with mouthwatering
satisfaction goodness.
For a restaurant to be given
early accolades after taking
over the location of a former

successful operation is valu-
able … Chef ’s Table 12 has thus
far passed the test in a short
time with flying colors and is
attracting many first-time cus-
tomers as well as the return of
numerous regulars.
Enjoying the food presented
by knowledgeable, smiling
and efficient servers like Kate
Brown and Kim Duran does
much to enhance the pleasures
of a dining visit … As do the
deft preparations by former
French Laundry and Ritz-
Carlton Chef Steve Jalbert.
Its large wine list is as
expected with fine dining …
a most important availabil-
ity with a wanted selection of
choice vintages.
Again, I repeat … Chef ’s
Table 12 is independently
owned by Ophilia Gojcaj … and
not affiliated in any way with
the almost-same-name chain.
Chef ’s Table 12 of
Farmington Hills is cur-
rently open six days per week,
Monday-Thursday, 5-10 p.m.;
Friday and Saturday, 5 -11 p.m.;
closed Sundays … Presently
only open for dinner but future
expectancy is for service of
lunch as well as happy hours
… Now also available for birth-
days, bar mitzvah dinners, etc.
… All reservations for catering
and dinner are accepted, (248)

luscious vittles … with Buddy
and Mary’s three sons, Arlyn,
Jerry and Aubrey, each serving
boyhood apprenticeships …
As young men, they decided
to someday open their own
eatery … It was called Scotch
’n Sirloin on 8 Mile, Detroit
… and, later, both that and
another restaurant named Trio
on Northwestern Highway,
Southfield, the two open at
the same time … To Benno’s
on Jefferson in Detroit … with
only nine tables and the owner,
Benno Steinborn, greeting you
in an apron being the same fel-
low who did the cooking and
everything else … No reserva-
tion? … No getting in! … even
if the place was empty! … To
Kow Kow Inn, West McNichols,
Detroit, with owner Eugene
Foo telling of his former waiter
scared stiff of barking dogs …
Eugene asked him if he ever
heard the old proverb that a
barking dog never bites … and
the waiter replying, “Sure, me
know proverb, you know prov-
erb, but do dog know proverb?”
JEWISH SENIOR LIFE
name has not been changed to
Friends of Jewish Senior Life,
as thought by some … Friends
of JSL, led by Director Leslie
Katz, is like an arm of JSL in
that it is somewhat similar to
sisterhoods and men’s clubs …
Friends raises funds to provide
various programming events …
and also provides volunteers
to run operations at the new

OLDIE BUT GOODIE … A
teenager had just gotten his
driving permit and asked his
father, a rabbi, if they could
discuss the use of the car. His
father took him into his study
and said, “I’ll make a deal with
you. You bring your grades up,
study your Bible a little and
get your hair cut, and we’ll talk
about it.”
After a month, the boy again
asked his father if they could
discuss the use of the car.
They again went to the father’s
study and dad said, “Son, I’ve
been real proud of you. You
have brought your grades up;
you’ve studied your Bible dili-
gently, but you didn’t get your
hair cut!”
The young man waited a
moment and replied, “You
know, Dad, I’ve been thinking
about that. You know, Samson
had long hair; Abraham had
long hair; Noah had long hair
and even Moses had long hair.”
The rabbi father replied, “Yes,
and they WALKED everywhere
they went!”
