ERIC S. “TAVY” SCHMIER died of lung
cancer at age 70 on July 9, 2017, at the
home of his brother and sister-in law in
Larkspur, Calif. He was known as Tavy, his
nickname, until law school.
Eric was born in Detroit, the second
of four children, to Walter and Beverly
Schmier. He was raised in Huntington
Woods and attended the University of
Michigan and Hastings College of the Law.
He served in the United States Navy
on the USS Constellation. He lived in
Larkspur for almost 40 years and attended
Congregation Kol Shofar in Tiburon, Calif.
In lifelong partnership with his brother
Ken, Eric had distinguished careers in
retailing and industrial real estate rede-
velopment. In 1985, he became a board
member of the Boys and Girls Clubs of
Oakland, served as its president and
remained dedicated to it for the remain-
der of his life.
Mr. Schmier is survived by his friend,
Ellen Tobe. He is also survived by his
mother; siblings, Michael Schmier
(Jeanette Richards), Kenneth Schmier
(Lisa) and Sara Aftergood (Dr. David);
nephews, Aaron Aftergood (Jenny), Jacob
Aftergood; niece, Hannah Reinstein (Yos).
The funeral and memorial service
were held on July 11. The family suggests
donations in memory of Eric Schmier be

MARILYN SOLOMON,
83, of West Bloomfield,
died Aug. 1, 2017.
She is survived by
her beloved husband,
Robert Solomon; daugh-
ters and son-in-law,
Jeri Rosenberg and Dr.
Solomon
Victor Strecher, Pamela
Rosenberg; son and
daughter-in-law, Stuart and Michelle
Solomon; sister, Sharon Baker; grandchil-
dren, Rachael (Josh) Berer, Candy (Angelo)
Barbera, Adam Solomon, Ryan Solomon
and fiancee, Lauren Mills; great-grandchil-
dren, Madeleine Julia, Kayla (Jose), Corey,
Justin, Amber and Jake; many nieces,
nephews, other family members and
friends.
Mrs. Solomon was the sister-in-law of
the late Mitchele Baker; the grandmother
of the late Julia Strecher.
Interment took place at Machpelah
Cemetery in Ferndale. Contributions may
be made to the Julia Strecher Memorial
Scholarship Fund at the University of
Michigan, to the Michigan Humane
Society or to a charity of one’s choice.

ALLEN SOSIN, M.D., 90,
died July 18, 2017, in
Boca Raton, Fla.
Dr. Sosin was an
adjunct professor at the
Wayne State University
School of Medicine. He
was a native Detroiter
Sosin
who attended Central
c. 1980
High School and was a
naval veteran of World
War II. He received both his under-
graduate and medical degrees from the
University of Michigan and remained a
lifelong Wolverine fan.
Dr. Sosin was board-certified in pedi-
atrics and in allergy. He founded Camp
MichiMac, one of the first summer camps
for asthmatic children. He was also a
director of the National Asthma and
Allergy Foundation and an active past
president and director of the Michigan
Asthma and Allergy Foundation, receiving
the foundation’s Lifetime Achievement
Award.
He is survived by Joyce Sosin, his wife of
63 years; their children and partners, Beth
(Ted Poretz) Sosin, Daniel (Jacalyn) Sosin,
Judy (Brad) Chase and Michael (Carole
Caplan) Sosin; grandchildren, Jenny and
Josh, Abby and Noah Sosin, David, Sam
and Ben, Marta, Hanna and Eliot.

DR. LAWRENCE E.
WENOKUR, 83, of West
Bloomfield, died Aug. 5,
2017.
He is survived by his
wife of 59 years, Arlene
Wenokur; children, Alan
Wenokur and Cameron
Wenokur
Mason, Shari Smith,
Bob Wenokur and Laura
Siegel; grandchildren,
Vida and Eden Wenokur, Isaac Smith,
Taylor, Trevor and Noah Wenokur, Alec
and Hunter Ramsay-Smith, Cameron
and Hailey Freedman; brother and sister-
in-law, Mickey and Barbara Wenokur;
sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dianne
and Henri Mouradian, Michael Gold and
Claire Lichtenstein; many loving nieces,
nephews, cousins and friends.
Dr. Wenokur was the devoted son of the
late George and the late Dinah Wenokur.
Interment was at Adat Shalom
Memorial Park. Contributions may be
