BRODER, 75,
passed away July
30, 2017, after a
brief illness.
A native of
Detroit and long-
Broder
time resident
of Huntington
Woods, Doreen
was a graduate of Cass Technical
High School and held a bach-
elor’s degree in library science
from Wayne State University. She
worked for many years as an edi-
tor and proofreader, including a
range of freelance work and many
years at Wayne State University
Press.
In retirement, Doreen trav-
eled all over the world with
her husband and was an active
volunteer in her new commu-
nity of Tamarac, Fla., includ-
ing the Broward Center for the
Performing Arts, Challenger and
Walker Elementary School librar-
ies, Temple Kol Ami Emanuel of
Plantation, Fla., and Reading for
the Blind.
Mrs. Broder is survived by her
beloved husband of 55 years,
Eugene “Yosl” Broder. She was
the proud mother of Gail Broder;
Phil Broder and his fiancée, Carly
Hitzfeld, Rebecca Egolf and Rabbi
James Egolf; devoted grandmoth-
er of Jeremiah and Joshua Egolf.
She is also survived by her sib-
lings, Barry Reifler (Judy), Linda
Reifler Alessi (Warren), and Karen
Richardson (Ike); many other
family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by
her parents, Pearl and Benjamin
Reifler, and her brother Frederick.
Services will be held at Temple
Kol Ami Emanuel in Plantation,
Fla., and on Friday, Aug. 11, at
11 a.m. at Ira Kaufman Chapel
in Detroit. The family will
gather after the service Aug.
11 at 6750 E. Nashway Drive in
West Bloomfield. Contributions
may be made to the National
Yiddish Book Center, specifically
the Bernard and Reva Broder
Memorial Fund for Yiddish Music
Projects, www.yiddishbookcenter.

Kaufman Chapel.

as a medic
with Patton in
Northern France,
Rhineland and
Central Europe.
